摘要

在台灣，客家意識、客家認同的成長是近一二十年來客家人之中普遍的現象，但是這樣的現象如果放在東南亞的脈絡來看，就會產生一些問題。本文根據我們到東南亞蒐集客家基本資料時，對所遇到的問題進行初步的整理。我們認為要探究東南亞的客家認同或客家意識，就必須將客家人置於當地的脈絡才有可能理解。很多時候，東南亞的客家認同其實只是一種亞/次族群認同，它是在東南亞特定的社會文化以及政治歷史中逐漸成形與變動的。本文即嘗試將我們在東南亞訪問/觀察客家人的結果做一初步整理。

In Taiwan, the growth of Hakka consciousness or Hakka identity is a common phenomenon in the last two decades, however, there was/is no similar development happened/happening in the Hakka communities in Southeast Asia. In this essay, we will discuss the issues of Hakka consciousness or identity in the Southeast Asian contexts. The Hakka identity is one of the Chinese sub-identities, which is formed and changed through the political developments and unique socio-cultural contexts in Southeast Asia.
